Compare the2024 Audi SQ8VS 2024 Bentley Bentayga

2024 Audi SQ8
2024 Bentley Bentayga

Safety

The SQ8 has a standard Secondary Collision Brake Assist, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Bentayga doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The SQ8 has standard Maneuver Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The Bentayga doesn’t offer automatic braking for stationary objects directly to the rear.

The SQ8’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the Bentayga.

Both the SQ8 and the Bentayga have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and available night vision systems.

Warranty

The SQ8 comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Bentayga’s 3-year basic warranty expires 1 year sooner.

The SQ8’s corrosion warranty is 9 years longer than the Bentayga’s (12 vs. 3 years).

There are over 6 times as many Audi dealers as there are Bentley dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the SQ8’s warranty.

Engine

The SQ8’s 4.0 turbo V8 hybrid produces 44 more horsepower (500 vs. 456) and 52 lbs.-ft. more torque (568 vs. 516) than the Bentayga Hybrid’s standard 3.0 turbo V6 hybrid.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the SQ8 gets better fuel mileage than the Bentayga V8 running its gasoline engine (15 city/21 hwy vs. 14 city/21 hwy).

The SQ8 has 2.7 gallons more fuel capacity than the Bentayga Hybrid’s standard fuel tank (22.5 vs. 19.8 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Brakes and Stopping

The SQ8 stops much shorter than the Bentayga:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the SQ8’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Bentayga (295/35R23 vs. 285/45R21).

The SQ8’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Bentayga’s standard 45 series tires. The SQ8’s optional tires have a lower 35 series profile than the Bentayga’s optional 40 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the SQ8 has standard 22-inch wheels. Smaller 21-inch wheels are standard on the Bentayga. The SQ8’s optional 23-inch wheels are larger than the 22-inch wheels optional on the Bentayga.

Suspension and Handling

The SQ8 Prestige handles at .92 G’s, while the Bentayga pulls only .78 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

Chassis

The SQ8 is 5.2 inches shorter than the Bentayga, making the SQ8 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Cargo Capacity

The SQ8 has a much larger cargo volume than the Bentayga with its rear seat up (30.5 vs. 17.1 cubic feet).

The SQ8’s standard rear seats fold to accommodate long and bulky cargo. The Bentayga w/Four Seat Comfort Specification doesn’t offer folding rear seats, only a ski pass-through.

Towing

The SQ8’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Bentayga’s (7700 vs. 7165 pounds).

Ergonomics

If the windows are left open on the SQ8 the driver can close them all at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Bentayga can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The SQ8’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The Bentayga’s cruise control switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

A manual rear sunshade and power rear side window sunshades are optional in the SQ8 to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Bentayga doesn’t offer a rear sunshade.

The SQ8 Prestige’s Park Assist Plus can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Park Assist Plus will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The Bentayga’s automatic parking system requires operating the brakes and transmission to safely park and it doesn’t offer remote control parking.

Recommendations

The Audi Q8/SQ8/RS Q8 outsold the Bentley Bentayga by over seven to one during 2023.
