The e-tron GT’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Ioniq 5 doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The Audi e-tron GT has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags help prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Ioniq 5 doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The e-tron GT has a standard Secondary Collision Brake Assist, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Ioniq 5 doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the e-tron GT. But it costs extra on the Ioniq 5.

Both the e-tron GT and the Ioniq 5 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras and rear cross-path warning.

The e-tron GT’s corrosion warranty is 5 years longer than the Ioniq 5’s (12 vs. 7 years).

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2025 Auto Issue reports that Audi vehicles are more reliable than Hyundai vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Audi 3 places higher in reliability than Hyundai.

The e-tron GT’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs standard on the Ioniq 5 are solid, not vented.

The e-tron GT RS offers optional heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The Ioniq 5 doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

For better traction, the e-tron GT has larger standard tires than the Ioniq 5 (F:245/45R20 & R:285/40R20 vs. 235/55R19).

The e-tron GT’s standard 245/45R20 front and 285/40R20 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series front and 40 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Ioniq 5 XRT’s standard 60 series tires. The e-tron GT’s optional 305/30R21 rear tires have a lower 30 series profile than the Ioniq 5 N’s 35 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the e-tron GT has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the Ioniq 5 XRT.

The front and rear suspension of the e-tron GT uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the Ioniq 5, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The e-tron GT offers an available active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Hyundai doesn’t offer an active suspension on the Ioniq 5.

The e-tron GT has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The e-tron GT’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The Ioniq 5 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the e-tron GT is 2.3 inches wider in the front and .6 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the Ioniq 5.

The RS e-tron GT performance handles at .93 G’s, while the Ioniq 5 SEL AWD pulls only .84 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the e-tron GT’s turning circle is 1.3 feet tighter than the Ioniq 5’s (38.1 feet vs. 39.4 feet). The e-tron GT’s turning circle is 2.6 feet tighter than the Ioniq 5 N’s (38.1 feet vs. 40.7 feet).

The e-tron GT is 7.5 inches shorter in height than the Ioniq 5, making the e-tron GT much easier to wash and garage and drive (lower center of gravity).

The design of the Audi e-tron GT amounts to more than styling. The e-tron GT has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .26 Cd. That is lower than the Ioniq 5 (.282 to .313) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the e-tron GT get better fuel mileage.

A standard locking glovebox (which can’t be accessed with the valet key) keeps your small valuables safer in the e-tron GT. The Ioniq 5 doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

A Service Interval Display is standard on the e-tron GT to save the owner time and money by calculating maintenance intervals for vehicle inspections, vehicle inspection based on odometer mileage. This takes the guesswork out of keeping your vehicle in top condition and helps it last longer. Hyundai doesn’t offer a maintenance reminder on the Ioniq 5.

The e-tron GT’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Ioniq 5’s standard passenger windows don’t open or close automatically.

If the windows are left open on the e-tron GT the driver can close them all at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Ioniq 5 can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The e-tron GT’s standard Audi Advanced Key allows you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, open the trunk, and start the car, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Proximity Key standard on the Ioniq 5 doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door.

The e-tron GT’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Ioniq 5’s standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

Laser headlights, standard on the e-tron GT Prestige/RS, produce their light by firing blue lasers through phosphorus, a process that uses one-half the power of the Ioniq 5’s LED headlights. Laser headlights can have double the range of LEDs with a much smaller surface area.

To help drivers see further while navigating curves, the e-tron GT Prestige/RS has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle. The Ioniq 5 doesn’t offer cornering lights.

The e-tron GT’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Ioniq 5 offers an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

The Audi e-tron GT has power folding mirrors that offer unparalleled convenience while maneuvering in tight places or parked. With the mirrors folded it’s easier to walk past and help prevent parking damage. The mirrors can be quickly unfolded when the driver is ready to leave. Power folding mirrors are only offered on the Ioniq 5 SEL/XRT/Limited/N.

The e-tron GT offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Ioniq 5.

The Audi e-tron GT has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the infotainment. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. Hyundai charges extra for Homelink® on the Ioniq 5.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Audi e-tron GT has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Only the Ioniq 5 SEL/Limited/XRT/N offers wireless charging.
